$24,800 Grant Pumped Into Canadian Fire Fighters Museum -
MPP Rinaldi Announces Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant
Port Hope - Teaching future generations about the important role fire fighters play in our communities got a little easier today with the announcement that the Ontario Trillium Foundation is giving the Canadian Fire Fighter's Museum a $24,800 grant. MPP Lou Rinaldi and Alan Strike, a volunteer with the Foundation, museum director Larry Webster and Port Hope mayor Rick Austin announced plans to develop a new education program.
"The Canadian Fire Fighter's Museum is creating an educational tool that will enable local children to learn more about this interesting chapter of our community's past," said MPP Rinaldi. "This grant is a result of the Ontario Trillium Foundation's commitment to building healthy and vibrant communities. I should also add that this program would not be possible without the energy of the museum's dedicated staff and volunteers."
This is an exciting new program for Canada's second largest fire fighter museum. The grant money will be used to hire a new Education Officer, develop an informative and interactive education program, create a volunteer manual and training program as well as redesigning the museum's website to more effectively teach and market their new feature.
The Canadian Fire Fighter's Museum opened in 1984 and has a wonderful collection of artifacts that effectively tell the story of how fire fighters have played a vital role in the lives of their communities. From Victoria Day weekend to Thanksgiving, the museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..
