Canadian Fire Fighters Museum - Education Program
The Canadian Fire Fighters' Museum Education Program has two options:
Outreach Program
A Museum Interpreter will visit your classroom. With the help of historic props, photographs and costumes, they will present a one to one and a half hour, age appropriate interactive presentation, linked to the Provincial Social Studies Curriculum. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in cooperative activities and complete a craft to keep.
In-House Program
Your class will travel to the Canadian Fire Fighters' Museum in Port Hope. While there, students will participate in a one and a half to two hour, age appropriate, interactive presentation, linked to the Provincial Social Studies Curriculum. Historic artifacts, props, photographs and costumes support the presentation. Students will participate in several cooperative activities and games and will complete a craft to keep. Students will also have the opportunity to tour the Canadian Fire Fighters' Museum and view the many displays.

Kindergarten
The Canadian Fire Fighters' Museum Education Program supports the expectations related to "Community Helpers".
Grade 1
The Canadian Fire Fighters' Museum Education Program supports the expectations related to "The Local Community" Unit; in particular, their understanding of community workers.
- Describe how people in the community interact to meet basic needs (Overall Expectation)
- Identify the occupations of some people in the community (Specific Expectation)
- Identify the buildings in which these people work and describe the tools and vehicles they use (Specific Expectation)
Grade 2
The Canadian Fire Fighters Museum Education Program supports the expectations related to the "Features of Communities Around the World" Unit. In particular:
- Describe how the environment affects the ways in which needs are met (Overall Expectation)
Grade 3
The Canadian Fire Fighters' Museum Education Program supports many of the expectations related to the "Pioneer" and "Communities" units.
- Describe changes that have occurred in their communities since the time of the early settlers (Overall Expectation, Pioneer Life)
- Identify distinguishing features of urban and rural communities (Overall Expectation, Urban and Rural Communities)
- Describe some possible relationships between communities and natural environments (Overall Expectation, Urban and Rural Communities)
The Canadian Fire Fighters' Museum Education Program also meets many of the Specific Expectations in these units.

To cover the cost of craft supplies, it is necessary to charge a small fee for each child.
